Meet Lovaeta Amoako

Founder & CEO, Culture Unloc'd LLC | Creator of LOCnificent

Lovaeta K. Amoako is a cultural curator, community builder, and the creative force behind LOCnificent — New York City's premier cultural platform celebrating locs, natural hair, and the global Black diaspora.

With an African-American and Ghanaian heritage, Lovaeta's love of locs began long before she loc'd her own hair in 2010. It started with her mother — a woman who wore locs boldly in the 1990s, when the world hadn't caught up yet. That image of her mother's courage planted a seed that would take years to fully bloom.

LOCnificent was born in 2018 from a personal development journey — a challenge to bring a meaningful goal to life. What Lovaeta envisioned as a loc appreciation event quickly became something far deeper. Two weeks before the very first LOCnificent, her mother passed away. She moved forward anyway. And every experience LOCnificent creates since has carried that foundation — her mother's strength, her legacy, and the quiet power of showing up fully in your crown.

"LOCnificent started as a goal. But it became a calling."

Eight years later, that calling has grown into a recognized cultural platform producing bold, community-driven experiences that draw hundreds of attendees and national brand partners year after year. LOCnificent has been featured in The Source, Hype Hair Magazine, and iHeartRadio, and has partnered with brands including Locsanity, Pattern Beauty, Verizon Business, Uncle Nearest, and Vita Coco.

Beyond LOCnificent, Lovaeta is a public servant, nonprofit board leader, and 2025 New York State Assembly Citation honoree — recognized for her contributions to culture and community in New York City.

Her mission, across everything she builds:

Amplify. Build Community. Connect.

Built with intention. Produced with excellence.
